Key Takeaways from VECS 2023

Written by Jason Craker on

Our Transformation Director, Jason Cracker, headed to Gothenburg for the annual Vehicle Electronics & Connected Services (VECS) conference. Spanning two days, the conference saw industry leaders and professionals come together to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the automotive sector.

If you missed the event, you can catch up with some of the key takeaways below.

#1 Partnerships and Customer-Centric Design

Scania Autonomous Solutions showcased the power of strategic partnerships as they continue to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system. Their collaborative approach has helped to accelerate their progress and deliver innovative solutions designed with the customer in mind.

#2 Europe's Autonomous Future

Despite the industry's progress, European companies still have a lot of ground to cover in terms of autonomous technology compared to the rest of the world. Augustin Friedel and Jan Bosch highlighted this disparity at VECS, noting we must ramp things up or prepare to be disrupted.

#3 Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and AI

The automotive industry is rapidly shifting towards software-defined vehicles, with a focus on AI integration. Whilst the use of AI technologies like ChatGPT is propelling this transformation and accelerating innovation in the sector, this shift also highlights the need for robust cyber security measures and iterative product testing.

#4 The Future of the Automotive Industry

For us, one standout moment at VECS 2023 was Heidi’s heartfelt confession and manifesto emphasising the need for us all to come together to ensure the industry continues to grow and prosper over the next 100 years.

True mobility, autonomous driving, software-defined vehicles, cyber security, and digitalisation will continue to create a turbulent world. Embracing these challenges as opportunities for growth and adaptation will be crucial for long-term success.

If we think the transition to electric was hard (and we are still a long way from saying we are finished with this task), then we have to realise that we've not seen anything yet…

We’re really looking forward to seeing what VECS 2024 brings and hope to see you there!
